UK: Muslims must not ‘quietly condone’ anti-Western ideology

Even UK Prime Minister David Cameron, he who is so wedded to the famous “Islam is a religion of peace” mantra, appears to have realised that the attraction of Islamic State has something to do with Islam.

Every facet of Islamic State’s conduct is justifiable by reference to the Qur’an, Sunna and hadith, which means that many such actions are essentially mainstream Islam taught throughout the world in mosques and madrasas. You only need to head over to our friends at Memri TV to see the kind of hatred and bile that is spewed by Islamic ‘leaders’ right here in Australia.

And it appears that Cameron might be finally catching on – I’m hoping that not having to rely on the awful Lib-Dems to govern, he is finally becoming a proper conservative:

David Cameron has warned parts of the Muslim community that “quietly condoning” anti-Western ideology is making it easier for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) to recruit in British cities.

The Prime Minister issued a stark message to Muslim families and leaders that they must do more to combat the lure of Isil among young people.

He also told those who have lost loved ones to extremist groups to stop “finger pointing” and blaming the police and security services when their relatives run off to Syria or Iraq.

Mr Cameron said: “The cause is ideological. It is an Islamist extremist Islamic ideology: one that says the West is bad and democracy is wrong, that women are inferior and homosexuality is evil.

“It says religious doctrine trumps the rule of law and Caliphate trumps nation state, and it justifies violence in asserting itself and achieving its aims. The question is: how do people arrive at this world view?

“I am clear that one of the reasons is that there are people who hold some of these views who don’t go as far as advocating violence, but do buy into some of these prejudices – giving the extreme Islamist narrative weight and telling fellow Muslims ‘you are part of this’.

“This paves the way for young people to turn simmering prejudice into murderous intent. To go from listening to firebrand preachers online to boarding a plane to Istanbul and travelling onward to join the jihadis.

“We’ve always had angry young men and women buying into supposedly revolutionary causes. This one is evil, is it contradictory, it is futile but it is particularly potent today.

“I think part of the reason it’s so potent is that it has been given this credence.

“So if you’re a troubled boy who is angry at the world or a girl looking for an identity, for something to believe in, and there’s something that is quietly condoned online or perhaps even in parts of your local community then it’s less of a leap to go from a British teenager to an Isil fighter or an Isil wife than it would be for someone who hasn’t been exposed to these things.” (source)

Of course, we can anticipate the inevitable shrieks of ‘Islamophobia’ to ring out around the country, but that response is starting to wear very thin. It isn’t working as well any more, as people see it for what it is, namely the silencing by Muslims of any criticism of Islamic ideology.

The reality is that the ideology of Islam is indeed at war with Western civilisation – it’s just astonishing how long it is taking for Western leaders to realise. I mean, Islam gives us a very clear hint, by calling all parts of the world that aren’t Muslim the House of War – but still Obama, Cameron and the rest scratch their heads.

There will come a time, very soon, when the West will have to defend itself. No amount of appeasement or kumbayah-singing marches against ‘racism’ will stop that.

  1. Brave words indeed. Let’s hope that he is not charged with “hate thought crime”.
